Nat 5 March Revision 21: RAGTIME

Ragtime 

A forerunner to jazz and often (but not always) performed on piano, ragtime is a style of music which features a steady left hand vamp pattern (if played on piano) and syncopated right hand patterns. Popular at the end of the 19th Century, ragtime, unlike jazz, was not improvised.
