Question: What is leitmotif?
Answer: It is a recurring theme, used to represent a character, place, object, event, etc. Heard in operas - and cartoons!
Pretty much impossible to identify just from hearing an excerpt, but that's not to say it can't be an answer. You could be asked something like 'this opera uses recurring themes to represent a particular character. Which term describes this?'
