Higher February Revision 1: What is an INTERVAL?

An interval is the distance between two notes, expressed as a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th or octave.

To work out an interval, first name the 2 notes involved. Next, counting the lowest note as number 1, work out how many letter names are between the 2 notes. For example, if the 2 notes are F and the C higher, the interval is a 5th (F,G,A,B,C). If the 2 notes are D and the B higher, the interval is a 6th (D,E,F,G,A,B).
